KIJ & Gilwell
9th August 2025

We don't let our young members have all the fun! Some of our leaders took their talents to the Kent International Jamboree, a 7 day festival of Scouting and Guiding, featuring members of both organisations from all over the world. This event lets the young members participate in some incredible activities from driving an actual car to getting covered in a colour run, jumping onto a stunt bag and even flying a plane! It was a delight to be part of this event and see so many smiles as all members, young and old, met new friends, swappes stories (and badges) and made memories they will never forget!
That's not all though as being a leader also means an invite to the annual Gilwell Reunion, an event at the UK's home of Scouting exclusively for leaders. This event is completely self-led, meaning participants can pick whichever mix of socialising, learning new skills, relaxing and touring the wonderful site suits them, The highlights include seeing the famous Gilwell Oak, a symbol of greatness from small beginnings, and a campfire which contained ashes from the fire on the first Scout camp in 1907. Ashes have been added to and collected from fires ever since, as a symbol that all Scouts are united in one community, sharing one fire, and we look forward to using these ashes on our camps.
Being a leader is more than working with young people, it's joining a community full of rewarding experiences and opportunities, proving the Scouting journey does't end at 18!
